Previous Business:
- The minutes from the March, 2007 meeting were accepted unanimously. Hope P provided a first and Paul M. a second to accept the meeting minutes as distributed.
- There has been a new rug installed at the entryway of the Dispatch/Operations building. This hazard was brought to the attention of the committee at the February meeting. The previous rug was not large enough to cover the entryway and caused a slipping hazard when entering the building.
New Business:
- SSI was awarded an award for outstanding safety performance by the Mahoning Valley Safety Council in OH. This award is given to companies who decrease their accident incident rate by 25% or more over the previous year. The statistics were based on all of our offices in the state of OH.
- The quarterly newsletter will be going out on the first payday in June. Committee members were asked to make suggestions on subjects to be included. The newsletter will cover the summer months of June, July and August and we would like to include safety subjects for that time of the year. The last newsletter included the option of receiving the newsletter by email; there was no response.
- The Safety Hazard was presented by Hope P.: she expressed concern at the situation with the hospital’s elevators. There is a gap at between the elevator and the floor with enough space for the wheels of gurneys to fall in if the wheels do not happen to be completely straight when traveling over the area. There was a recent incident where the wheels of a gurney carrying a patient fell into the gap and it required several people to lift the gurney. Three hospital employees filed W/C claims due to this incident. SSI employees could easily be called on the assist in the same type of situation. The elevator company says there is no remedy for this situation; Fred will research the subject and forward information. Hope also brought up again training for the hospital guards on dealing with mental health patients. The hospital has not set a date for training and we will contact them again.
- 4. The Safety Hazard will be given by Don B. at the May meeting.
The next Safety Meeting will be held May 18, 2007 at 0900.
Topic: Slips, Trips, and Falls
