St Moritz Security Services, Inc. Safety Meeting,
Friday, Friday, May 18, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 0900. Present: Hope P., Don B., Vickie M., Jasmine M., Doris B., Tara R., Kevin S.

The where no work related accidents report in any of our offices since the April, 2007 meeting.

There were two vehicle accidents:
5/2/07-CA vehicle had its windshield broken while parked
5/13/07-NJ site had an accident with a client’s vehicle and two tires had to be replaced; no injuries.

There was one report of damaged caused by an employee at a FL site who closed a security gate and the arm struck a vehicle.

Previous Business:

  1. The minutes from the April, 2007 meeting were accepted unanimously. Hope P provided a first and Don B. a second to accept the meeting minutes as distributed.
  2. The safety hazard mentioned at the last meeting about the gap between the elevator and the floor was researched by Fred Samson at Henderson Brothers. The 1.5-inch gap is within the parameters of elevator regulations and a normal size gap. The only thing that could be altered would be the wheels on the gurneys and there are just too many gurneys in the hospital to have this done.
  3. We also discussed the training for the hospital guards in dealing with the mental patients while on duty. There is no training material at the hospital and the hospital trains its people once a year. Kevin S. recommend that we get our operations department involved and look into having a local police officer provide the training.

New Business:

  1. The attached Safety newsletter will be distributed next payday 5/24, 5/25.
  2. The Safety hazard was presented by Don B. He provided pictures of the parking lot at Jefferson Regional and demonstrated where directional arrows were previously on the pavement to direct traffic around a traffic island and in an area where a section of the road is one-way. The road has been repaved last year, obliterating the arrows, and the arrows have not been repainted. This has led to vehicles exiting the emergency room area and often going the wrong way. A letter will be sent from our Safety committee to the hospital safety committee requesting that the arrows be repainted. Don also mentioned the traffic congestion at the front of the hospital during afternoon hours with vehicles and buses at the entrance and patients and employees crossing the area. There is a guard on duty at the medical office building that periodically will come over and get the congestion relieved but that guard goes off duty at 1600. A guard assigned to this area would ensure that traffic signs are obeyed and vehicles are not doubled parked relieving the congestion and making it safer for pedestrians and vehicles. This will also be included in the letter sent to the Safety committee.
  3. The Safety hazard at the next meeting will be presented by Jasmine M.
  4. Our next Safety meeting will be held on Thursday, June 21, 207 at 0900.
  5. The topic, Hidden Costs-Accidents Hurt Everyone, was presented.
  6. The meeting adjourned at 0945
