St Moritz Security Services, Safety Meeting, May 23, 2008, 0900
Present: Hope P., Don B., Doris B., Jasmine M., Tim D., Joe M., Charles K, Vickie M., Paul M. SSI employees working at the hospital site also attended either the 0900 session or the additional 1100 session.
The meeting was held in the Jefferson Room at Jefferson Regional Hospital.
Topic: MRSA
The presentation was made by Beverly F., Jefferson Hospital Infection Control Dept. A description of bacteria, good and bad, was given and how these bacteria are spread, with an emphasis on MRSA. Printed information on the MRSA virus was provided.
We did learn that the spreading of bacteria is done mostly by touch and the best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands often, or use alcohol hand cleaner often, and keep your hands away from your face.
St Moritz appreciates Beverly’s addressing the Safety Committee and SSI employees. She is a knowledgeable and interesting speaker who encourages her audience to participate and ask questions.
The group was also addressed by Phyllis B., director of the hospital’s customer service department. She stressed the need for the SSI employees working at the site to take the time to treat the patients and visitors as courteously as they themselves would like to be treated. Employees have been issued a nametag with their first name only. This tag is to be worn at all times while on duty. The hospital is also working on developing a quieter environment and would like to see a decrease in loud radio transmissions. Employees must be able to hear the radio calls and turning the volume down on the radios is not always possible. The radio equipment is owned by the client; the possibility of using an earpiece was suggested.
The business part of the Safety meeting was held following the speakers.
