June is Safety Month
Every office is reviewing their emergency procedures at the office and at the jobsites. Do you know the emergency procedures for your duty station? Celebrate National Safety Month at home also-assemble a family Emergency kit. Fill a watertight container with a first aid kit, flashlight, battery-operated radio and batteries, candles, matches, bottled water, non-perishable food and a can opener.
Paperwork is a necessary evil. When any type of accident happens, there are always questions to be answered and forms to be completed. Completing the forms quickly, completely, and accurately will assist everyone involved. It allows anyone injured to receive treatment without problems and the insurance company to begin to resolve the claim promptly.
Keep all the accident reporting forms together in an accident packet, workers’ compensation, vehicle and property damage. Keeping the accident packets in a colorful folder makes everything easier to find during the confusion following an accident. All forms are available on the company forms site; call your regional office if you need accident forms.
Road supervisors and site supervisors should be provided with their own copies of the accident packets and instructions on how to complete the forms.

MRSA
There have been recent concerns about the infection “MRSA” and several clients have distributed information to the employees at their sites. In May, the Safety Committee and SSI employees working at a hospital site were given the opportunity to learn the facts of MRSA and ask questions with a nurse from the Infection Control Dept. MRSA lives in your body and spreads several ways but usually by physical contact with a person or an item a person has touched.
Protect yourself against germs:
- Hand washing, with soap and water for several minutes or use of alcohol hand cleaner, is still the best prevention for any infection.
- Keep your hands away from your face as much as possible.
Detailed information on MRSA is available at your regional office.
